25 new buses ply Tacloban-Samar route

AT LEAST 25 new buses have started plying from the cities of Tacloban City, Catbalogan, and Calbayog as part of the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

Of the 25 buses, 15 are for Tacloban-Catbalogan while ten are for Tacloban-Calbayog route and vice-versa.

The additional public utility vehicles (PUVs) will help ease the transportation problem in Eastern Visayas particularly in Samar province, according to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Atty. Martin Delgra III.

New batch of buses will also ply from Tacloban to Catarman in Northern Samar and Ormoc City soon.

The 25 PUVs are equipped with wifi connection, GPS, automated fare collection system, comfort room, speed limiter, and CCTV.

The buses were also given a provisional authority to travel.

After the November 2013 Super Typhoon Yolanda, new routes for 45 solar jeepneys were also opened in Tacloban for the residents in the northern resettlement sites in the city.

The solar jeepneys were also part of the government’s PUV modernization program. (SunStar Philippines)
