ALONG Mount Mayon St. near Qurino Avenue, there is a commercial strip that is becoming a home to some new restaurants and cafes in Davao City.

Among those restaurants in the area is Little Nam, a homegrown Vietnamese restaurant. I have been here a couple of times and I like the food they offer here.

A few nights ago, I had dinner here because I was craving for their Suon Ram Nam, a Veitnamese pork dish similar to humba.

One thing about Little Nam that I love is the design of the place. I love the pop of colors, the colorful lanterns on the ceiling were also very pleasing to the eyes.

I was warmly greeted by the dining staff when I entered. From their smiles and warm welcome, I knew that I will be experiencing a good service.

Once I settled on my table, they brought me the menu and a glass of water.

I ordered the Suon Ram Nam and fried rice for my dinner. Then for dessert, I ordered the Durian Ice Cream with Vietnamese Coffee Jelly.

The Suon Ram Nam is Vietnamese caramelized pork spareribs. This was delicious and my favorite dish here. The pork spareribs were very tender. The sauce has a wonderful balance of sweet and salty. You get that nice caramel flavor and then that unique soy sauce flavor. I also find the dish to be quite rich too.

The fried rice was also a treat. It was so tasty that I want to finish it quickly but since I was trying to limit my rice in take, I had to eat it slowly so I can enjoy each spoonful of the dish. It was garlicky, salty, and had a hint of sweetness.

As great as the dinner was, the dessert was also a perfect way to cap off my meal here. Durian and coffee is an odd pairing but when done correctly they work together well. You have that tangy and milky durian ice cream and then you have that nice bitter and sweet coffee jelly. The dessert was rich and playful at the same time.

A dinner at Little Nam is always a treat. I enjoy the food here everytime I visit.
