ORGANIZERS of the Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival (IBMF) have heeded the call of health officials and have decided to cancel this year’s events amid concerns over the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier recommended the cancellation of big events or mass gatherings until further notice. The health department is also advising the public to avoid crowded places and continue to practice self-protection measures.

The committee of the balloon and music event, which draws 30,000 to 35,000 tourists from around the country, considered public health concerns in its decision to cancel the festival.

The event also brings together balloon flyers from different parts of Asia and the world.

“For the past six years of organizing the Lubao International Hot Air Balloon and Music Festival, we have always strived to prioritize the safety and comfort of our guests. It is for this reason, and in light of the recent health concerns surrounding the Covid-19, that we have reached the decision to cancel the event on April 3, 4, and 5,” the IBMF said in a statement.

The organizers promised to stage an even better event in 2021.

“On behalf of the Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival, we would like to apologize for the unfortunate news, especially to those who have made travel plans. See you next year at the bigger and brighter Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival,” it added.
