BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts stunned the University of San Jose -Recoletos collegiate team: 25-13, 25 -16 and 25-12 in the championship match of the Cebu-Bacolod Goodwill Games at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Sunday, February 23, 2020.
This tournament will likewise serve as Tay Tung’s tune-up match ahead of the 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in Aklan next month.
The Bacolod-based team opened its campaign with a 25-8 and 25-19 sweep against the University of San Carlos’ college team behind the offensive attacks from Alyssa Bertolano, Myrtle Escanlar and Kiesha Bedonia as setter Katherine Shaine Cortez did well in her role of distributing the ball.
The Thunderbolts also played an impressive game when they swept host Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Team A, 25-13 and 25-12 before easily taking down Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Team B: 25-5, and 25-7.
Meanwhile, the Thunderbolts will return to Bacolod to continue their preparation to defend their regional title and once again represent Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa slated in Marikina.
