A CALL center agent, who introduced herself as a niece of a Davao del Norte city mayor, was arrested for swindling in an entrapment operation on Friday, February 21, at 7-Eleven Quezon Boulevard, Davao City.

Krizma Joy Rellon, 24, a transient resident of Purok 7, Brgy 37-C, Mabini Boulevard, Davao City, had allegedly failed to deliver 250,000 surgical face masks for P197,000 to complainant Marjorie Cainglet, 25, and resident of Rosalina Village 3, Baliok, Davao City.

Cainglet sought the help of the police when Rellon failed to make the delivery as scheduled on Friday morning, February 21, and even asked for an additional payment of P100,000 to facilitate delivery of the items.

Cainglet said she had believed the suspect because the latter claimed to be the niece of Tagum City Mayor Allan L. Rellon and a business partner and close friend of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Personnel of Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IMDB) of DCPO together with the Davao City Anti-Scam Unit conducted an entrapment operation against Rellon.

During the operation, authorities recovered from the suspect cash amounting to P100,000, Centur Medical Supplies transaction receipts and P777,000.

Rellon and the pieces of evidence are now under the custody of the police office.

Earlier, authorities urged the public to report to their office cases of face mask hoarding and overpricing.

They are also monitoring the selling of overpriced masks, especially among the pharmaceutical firms that might be profiteering from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) scare.

Demand for face masks surged when cases of Covid-19 surged in January.
