ALJAY Alloso proved his worth anew as he lifted the Holy Child College of Davao (HCCD) Red Eagles to a rousing 110-76 victory over 2019 tormentor St. Mary’s College of Tagum (SMCT) Hawks in the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) regional championship held Sunday, February 23, at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina Gym.

The NBTC Davao City finals most valuable player (MVP) exploded with 33 points, including five triples, as the Nestor Sorrosa-coached Red Eagles exacted revenge against the Hawks who dethroned them in the 2019 NBTC regional finals.

The Midsayap native Alloso, a 19-year-old Grade 12 Humsss student, said he felt blessed to play again after he had an injury.

“Feeling blessed po kasi galing ako injury tapos nakabalik ako ulit maglaro binigyan pa ako ni God ng isang chance para makabalik.”

He also thanked God for giving them the regional championship after losing the title in 2019 when he was not able to play having been sidelined by an injury.

“Happy po ako talaga nung nag-champion kami. Words are not enough to describe my feelings,” he told SunStar Davao in a Facebook Messenger interview.

Marvin Samonte added 16 points for the Davao City squad.

Coach Sorrosa said, “Nakabawi rami karon.”(We were able to bounce back this time.)

He said their tight defense foiled SMCT shooters’ attempts to score.

“Depensa jud. Daghan maayo nilang mga shooters pero at least sa ilalom, makuha namo rebound. Ang among point guard si Alloso ni pick-up jud. Tanan nag-contribute jud sa among daug,” said Sorrosa who was assisted by Roger Rabago.

(Our defense made us win. The rival team had a lot of shooters but we dominated the boards and our point guard also picked up his game. Everybody else contributed to our win.)

He also said that for the March 21 to 27 NBTC national finals at the Mall of Asia Arena, a Jose Maria College (JMC) player will reinforce the team.

Holy Child was also composed of Victor Joshua Bedoya, Raven Gumban, Kyle Jamora, John Deanyel Orac, Dave Solon, Philip Miguel Anasco, James Dean Michaelson Belicario, Aeron Jeswill Awe, John Carl Aballe, Rhude Jay Villaflores, Froilan Palcis and Ralf Bernhard Panto.
