Being in love

THE heart is the most powerful muscle in the human body. Physiologically, it pumps the blood in our system while figuratively it carries out our emotions especially our most powerful feeling which is love.

There are different forms of love such as love of country or love of the arts, but as a millennial let me talk about being in love. Being in love is a force and a gift to humankind, a gift we all possess and are capable of giving. Intangible it may be, but it holds so much power; for when we are in love it moves us to do things much more compelling than what is visible in the eyes.

How does one know if he or she is in love? I think it is more than just the sparks and butterflies in the stomach, or the romantic excitement. It is not just simple attraction to another person. You’ll know you’re in love when there is a sense of rightness that would also somehow make you feel at peace, happy and excited. People usually can’t put words on such emotion because being in love is not one specific experience. It needs no explanation and no condition as it is freely expressed and received.

However being in love has risks because there is no assurance that it will be reciprocated on the same degree. When you get into a romantic relationship you undergo the process of building a bond between you and your partner. There are times where you have to fight for your relationship to work while there are alos times where you simply have to let go. Relationships also encounter difficult situations where you have to compromise differences. It is embracing the good and bad parts of each other. It is an ongoing process of knowing and accepting someone for who they are and for what they are.

Being in love entails sacrifices. It needs faith in one another. It is a commitment. (Alexis Kho, BSHM student, La Consolation College)
