THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental - North has distributed about 34 hectares of land covered by comprehensive agrarian reform program (Carp) to 29 beneficiaries at Barangay 12 in Victorias City.

Municipal Agrarian Reform program officer Ma. Jade Sollesta, who led the certificate of land ownership award (Cloa) distribution Monday, February 24, said the landholding was formerly owned by Ben-Jam Agro Development Corporation, among others.

“Installation and documenting activities will follow in the next few days to officially instate the farmer-beneficiaries to their awarded lands,” she added.

DAR-Negros Occidental I, in a statement, said the Cloa distribution is one of the preliminary activities of the agencies to acquire land under comprehensive agrarian reform program extension with reforms (Carper).

The DAR is mandated to redistribute government and private agricultural lands to landless farmers and farm workers to secure the farmers’ land security, social equity, and provide them with the necessary productive resources needed to ensure their economic viability and productivity.

It also covers all tenanted agricultural lands such as those in the retained areas, not yet acquired for distribution under Carp, and those which may be validly covered under existing laws, it added.
