P800,000 properties razed in twin fires

A WEEK before the Fire Prevention Month in March starts, twin fire incidents erupted on Sunday afternoon, February 23, in Davao City that razed some P800,000 worth of properties.

In a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Davao, the first fire incident broke out at Purok 44, Mangahan, Ulas in Barangay Talomo, Davao City around 1:30 p.m.

Based on an initial investigation conducted by a BFP fire investigator, the fire started at the back portion of Monteverde Compound, Ulas, Davao City, and later on spread and burned neighboring residences and establishments. All of the affected structures were totally damaged.

Owners of the neighboring residences/establishment are Jessie Mae Cerenas, female, single, 26, and a resident of Monteverde Compound, Ulas, Davao City; Raul Rosales, 58, male, married and a resident of Ulas, Davao City; Rick Angelo Chatto, 28, male, single, and a resident of Kissea Village, Ulas, Davao City; Mary Grace Comera, 40, female; Floren Heredija Maslog, 58; Joseph Abibita Mabaloc, 54; and Veronica Escurzon, 54.

The incident gutted down about P600,000 worth of properties. BFP also said that no casualties or major injuries were noted.

The fire was declared under control at 3:30 p.m. on the same date. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The alarm status reached to second alarm due to the coverage but it was declared totally fire out at 4:34 p.m.

Report also revealed that there were six commercial buildings, mostly made out of light materials, which totally damaged and one residential house partially damaged.

Meanwhile, the Bangoy Fire Station reported a fire incident at Tavera Street, Davao City at 2:34 p.m. The blaze was contained at 3:30 p.m. with no casualties reported.

An estimated P200,000 damage was reported by fire investigators. It was learned that the cause was unattended cooking. No casualties were reported during the incident. (JCR)
