Bayan-Negros calls for Duterte’s ouster on Edsa anniversary

AS THE country commemorates the 34th anniversary of the EDSA People Power revolution today, Progressive group, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or Bayan-Negros is calling for the ouster of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Bayan-Negros spokesperson Ereneo Longinos said in the “horrible” memory of the martial law imposed by the late president Ferdinand Marcos, the country is once again in the clutches of a fascist dictatorship under Duterte.

Longinos said the president had been using the premise of the so-called war on drugs, by launching a bloody campaign which undermines the due process and resulted to the killings of thousands especially those living in poverty.

The spokeperson said based on records made by Karapatan-Negros, there are already 87 victims of extrajudicial killings against political activists in the region, while 95 are imprisoned.

“These are the gross human rights violations of his administration, while the real criminals are freed,” Longinos said.

He also accused the Duterte administration of incarcerating political dissenters without due process of law or worst being killed.

Longinos also criticized the administration’s moves to shut down ABS-CBN by posturing himself to hate oligarchs, yet maneuvers to install his own controlled oligarchs and cronies.

“The message of EDSA uprising is clear. The Duterte regime’s Marcosian methods are unacceptable to the people,” he said. “The widespread human rights violations and abuse of power we see today are reminiscent of Marcos’ rule, he added. (TDE)
