CLARK FREEPORT -- As the demand for renewable energy increases, another locator here has recently signed an agreement with a solar power provider as an alternative solution to maintain a sustainable environment here.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) Engineering Corp. Phils deputy general manager Rene Philip Banzon said his company has signed an agreement with AlphaSolar Inc.
Banzob made the statement during the weekly Balitaan media forum here.
The solar energy project of SIAP is the second environmental-friendly project that the firm will undertake in Clark.
Currently, it has a rain water collection system using their roof to recycle water for their toilets.
In addition to their eco-friendly project, SIAP has also decided to use the firm's roof for the installation of solar rooftop panels.
"As one of our recent projects in connection with our thrust towards sustainability is the solar roof panel which was signed on [February 18]," Banzon said.
The contract signing is a go signal for the order and delivery of solar panels with a capacity of 504 megawatts, as big as the one in Viskase Asia Pacific Corp., which will be enough to power all three hangars.
AlphaSolar Inc. managing director Tito Maglaqui and Symbior Solar business development manager Margaret Honrado were also present during the CAMI forum sponsored by Clark Development Corporation.
Maglaqui explained how solar energy can be cost-efficient for industries and households as they are planning to create a business model that will benefit an entire community.
He also said during the forum that they are also targeting regular households to try the alternative source of energy to power up their electric appliances in their respective households.
With this, "we will be mobilizing a project for Pampanga-based developers and subdivisions so we will containerize the energy storage systems for the community," Maglaqui said.
"It's a system-wide approach for a sharing economy," he added.
Last year, AlphaSolar Inc. held its first Solar Energy Forum at the Clark Marriott Hotel that was attended by Clark locators.
Among the first to subscribe to solar energy is Viskase Asia Pacific Corp., the first company to use industrial scale solar power rooftop system inside the Freeport.
The solar capacity of solar energy produces about 910,000 kilowatt hours of solar energy per year that will save around P190 million in 25 years.
According to the International Energy Agency, renewables will have the fastest growth in the electricity sector, providing almost 30 percent of power demand in 2023.
