NPA harasses Army detachment; Cafgu member wounded

A MEMBER of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Active Auxiliary (CAA) was wounded after communist rebels harassed an Army detachment in Calabugao, Impasug-ong town in Bukidnon on Monday, February 24.

Second Lieutenant Camille Bumatay, Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB), said around five members of the New People's Army (NPA) fired their guns around 300 meters away.

"Nagpaputok lang sila din umalis din (They fired their guns and left)," Bumatay said.

Bumatay said the CAA member who was shot at the upper arm was brought to Cagayan de Oro for treatment and is already in stable condition.

Meanwhile, another NPA unit allegedly belonging to the Sub-Regional Command 1 of North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC) conducted similar harassment at the Army detachment in San Juan, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental past 1 a.m. Tuesday, February 25.

Lieutenant Jefferson Mariano, CMO officer of the 58th Infantry Battalion, said the rebels fired their guns around 200-500 away from the detachment.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Troops recovered a magazine for AK47.

Mariano said this is the NPA's diversionary tactics as they were allegedly pressured with the focused military operations of the government.

"Seconds lang yung pagpapaputok. Nagpapansin kasi itong mga NPA kasi naiipit na sila. Wala na silang tatakbuhan. Na track na namin saan sila pupunta," Mariano said.
