220 teams join 2-day Sinulog Cup

THE AboitizLand Football Cup will take a break this weekend as the Central Visayas Football Association holds the annual Sinulog Cup on Feb. 29 to March 1 in three venues.

The tournament, now on its 10th year, was supposed to be staged two weekends ago but was moved owing to the coronavirus scare.

On Saturday, there will be nine categories to be played at the Cebu City Sports Center and at the San Roque Parish football field, while on March 1, five categories will be played at the CCSC.

On Feb. 29, the Mixed Under 7, Under 9, Under 11 and the Boys Under 13 and Under 15 will be played at CCSC, while Girls Under 15, and Under 19 and the Boys Under 17 and Under 19 will be played at San Roque.

On March 1, the Men’s Open, 40-Above, Inter-Company, Ladies Open and the 50-Above will be played at CCSC.

This year’s edition attracted 220 teams with a few out-of-town entries. The U7 has 12 teams including one from Masbate, while both the U9 and U11 divisions have 28 entries including a team each from Davao City and Panabao City and six Don Bosco Technology College (DBTC) entries.

The Boys 13 has 18 teams with four DBTC squads, while the Boys 15 has 20 with four from DBTC.

Boys 17 has 17 teams with one from Balamban, while the Boys 19 has 15 teams. On the other hand, the Girls 19 division has nine teams in two groups, while the Girls 15 has five teams in one group.

The 40-Above division has 10 teams, while the Inter-Company has eight teams. The ladies open attracted 15 teams and the 50-above has five teams in one group.

As expected, the Men’s Open division attracted the most entries with 30 teams spread over six groups. (PR)
