IT WAS tea time when we met the fashionably slim and smiling German Ambassador to the Philippines, Her Excellency Anke Reiffenstuel—a true charmer.

Over a sumptuous merienda spread at the board room of Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Amb. Reiffenstuel regaled us with interesting trivia about her diplomatic mission, which dealt mostly with humanitarian issues.

From 2016 to 2019, she was head of the Division of Humanitarian Assistance and Humanitarian Demining (Operations) at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, Germany. The division is part of the Directorate General for Crisis Prevention, Stabilization and Post-Conflict Reconstruction.

She has worked in the Diplomatic Service since 1993, with postings at the German Embassies in London, New Delhi and Cairo. In 2019, she was assigned to the German Embassy in Manila.

Joining us in this absolutely heartwarming meeting was our host, Honorary German Consul in Cebu Franz Seidenschwarz. He added that in spite of an extremely hectic schedule, Reiffenstuel was able to touch base with Cebu’s relevant personalities.

Incidentally, Amb. Reiffenstuel is married with three children, whom we would like to meet at some future time!

Balik-balik, Ambassador!
