Kalinga cops confiscate P400,000 marijuana

KALINGA police over the week confiscated nearly eight kilos of dried marijuana in separate operations and arrested a rider after failing to present a license to carry a firearm.

Police recovered 3.2 kilograms of suspected marijuana bricks worth P408,000 during a mobile checkpoint at Barangay Poblacion, Tinglayan, Kalinga on February 22.

According to a belated report, personnel of Tinglayan Municipal Police Station were conducting a checkpoint at Barangay Poblacion when two riders on motorcycle sped past the scene which prompted police to chase the suspects.

The riders, according to police, threw a sack they were carrying and continued to flee heading towards Mountain Province.

Although the chase turned unsuccessful, police recovered two marijuana bricks weighing 1.2 kilograms and two marijuana in an elongated form weighing two kgs. The recovered marijuana was mixed in the sack containing pigeon pea.

In another operation, an estimated P482,400 worth of marijuana leaves and stalk packed into five tubular transparent plastic with an estimated weight of 4.02 kilograms were seized from Omar Luis Espino, 21, single and resident of 111 Kalaw St., Brgy 127 Caloocan City was arrested in the afternoon of February 20 at Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

The suspect was arrested by the composite team of Police Investigation Branch of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, Tabuk City Police Station, Tanudan Municipal Police Station, Tinglayan MPS, Regional Investigation Division, and the Regional Investigation Unit 14.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle rider was arrested by combined operatives from the 15O3rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobil Force Battalion (RMFB) 15 in a checkpoint at Sitio Talaca, Agbannnawag, Tabuk City, Kalinga on February 22.

The rider was identified as Pedro Agpad Paclay, 46, and resident of Katao, Lacnog, Tabuk City.

The suspect was initially flagged down for not wearing a helmet. When asked to present his driver’s license, police saw the grip of a pistol inside his sling bag and immediately arrested Paclay after failing to present a license to carry firearm. (Jonathan Llanes)
