Cebuanos leave mark in Bohol tilt

CEBUANO chess wizards made their presence felt outside their home turf as they nabbed podium spots in the 2020 Board Member Dionisio Victor A. Balite Chess Cup at the BIT-International College System in Dao, Tagbilaran City held on Feb. 22 to 23, 2020.

National Master Merben Roque finished at second place in the Open Division as Bohol’s Norman Longjas bagged the eventual crown. Remegio Galenzoga III settled at third place.

Completing the top 10 were Reishi Boy Polan, Rogel Niño Panilagao, Philip Caderao, Gamaliel Abucejo, national master Elmer Sumngat, Glicerio Pardillo Jr. and Cebu’s Anthony Makinano.

City of Naga’s Panilagao also placed third in the Junior Division, which was won by Remegio Galenzoga III of Leyte. Reishi Boy Polan finished in second place.

The fourth to 10th placers were Joshua Viva, Benjamin Mike Anora, Jelon Billion II, Michael Canizares, Wildfredo Besinga, March Bryan Villarojo and Gio Bernaldez.

The Elementary Division was won by Dominic Aranay, Reymond Tonrepalma secured second place and Darren Grace Tenio snagged third place.

The other top performers were Jeff Rheil Urasaga, Jazzer Amorio, Kathleen Lao-ay, Dorina Jandayan, Vince Chrysler Sumngat, Pearl Angeli Segouia and Jannah Palacat.

George Vencilao was hailed as the top senior performer, Judy Gail Maghanoy was awarded as the top lady performer and Kathleen Lao-Ay was named the top kiddo performer. (RSC)
