DESPITE the cancellation of several major events, the Public Safety & Security Command Center (PSSCC) said they are all set to secure the four remaining activities of the 83rd Araw ng Dabaw that will kick off on Sunday, March 1.

PSSCC head Angel Sumagaysay, during yesterday’s AFP-PNP media forum, said that a total of P2,959 security forces will be deployed throughout the celebration of the annual festivity, which will run from March 1 to 16.

The activities include Misa Pasasalamat, which is the opening mass on March 1 at San Pedro Cathedral; Araw ng Dabaw Light Show or the 3D Light Show at the City Hall; Davaoeno Ako, a storytelling of the history of Davao in various schools; and Lantaw Dabawenyo, a wall art competition showcasing the positice spirit of Davaoenos at Sta. Ana Elementary School.

Sumagaysay underscored that the security sector is not letting its guard down although most of the big events were all cancelled by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio due to the threat of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The precautionary measure is in adherence to the guidelines set by the Department of Health (DOH) to minimize the risk of transmission of the fatal virus. The cases of the new strain of coronavirus have significantly increased worldwide, causing apprehension among health authorities.

Scrapped events included Pasiugdang Pagsaulog, Reyna Dabawenya, Ginoong Davao, Sayaw Pinoy, Kalingawan sa Sta. Ana, Hudyaka, Mutya ng Dabaw, Pasidungog, Araw ng Empleyado, Kanta Dabawenyo, Parada Dabawenyo, and Datu Bago Awards.

Although there were only few events left, Sumagaysay still invited Dabawenyos to enjoy the remaining activities prepared by the city. (JCR)
