Murder raps filed vs suspect in slay of minor

A MURDER complaint was filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office in Bacolod City Thursday, February 27, against the suspect who killed a Grade 10 student of VMA Global College in front of the school in Barangay Sum-ag in the city Wednesday morning.

Police Lieutenant Jonito Pastrana, chief of Police Station 9, said that Ray Jan Carmelotes, 27, of Purok A.C. Yulo, Barangay Sum-ag, was charged for murder in the killing of the 16-year-old boy.

He said the victim, whose name is being withheld, was a Grade 10 student and not a Grade 11 as what was earlier reported.

Investigation showed the victim along with his classmates were walking in front of the school around 11:50 a.m. when the suspect attacked him several times using a kitchen knife.

The victim was brought to the South Bacolod General Hospital, but he did not survive.

The suspect was arrested by policemen who were conducting visibility patrol in the area.

Pastrana said they already doubled their security after the suspect attempted to escape from the lock up cell.

He said Carmelotes tried to open the ceiling inside jail facility.

He added the suspect also admitted that he was under the influence of illegal drugs when he committed the crime.

Pastrana noted they determined that Carmelotes had an old grudge with the brother of the victim.

“It was a well planned to kill the victim in the area,” Pastrana said.

He said they will wait for the commitment order to turn over the suspect to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
