Titles for Baguio City owned lots pushed

THE City Government of Baguio is being urged to immediately title all lands owned by the city.

In the weekly Talakayan sa Environment Code radio forum of the Baguio Regreening Movement, chairman Erdolfo Balajadia pointed the need for the city to undertake this measure for the Summer Capital to utilize these lots for the city’s future needs.

“We have private lots which need to be titled under the city so that this would be beyond the reach of speculators, in fact, there are lots presently occupied by private persons and they have constructed but they have not been taxed. This is now the time for us to ensure that what we have is being protected by titling these areas in the name of the city,” Balajadia said.

Meanwhile, Baguio City Councilor Mylen Yaranon explained the city is currently conducting an assessment of lands given to private individuals owned by the city.

“The mayor (Benjamin Magalong) has tasked the city legal department to look into this. We are already going to the process of titling. The inventory and titling of all our government owned lands should be done. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources said there are lots that have been given so the mayor is asking them to revoke some titles that were issued to private individuals,” Yaranon explained.

Balajadia meanwhile said there should be coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the city to identify these properties of the city that needs to be titled.

“Whatever is owned by the city should be for the city. Some reservations have been titled including forest reserves,” Balajadia added.
