A COUPLE was arrested in an entrapment for extortion in Zamboanga City, the police said Friday, February 28.
The Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula identified the arrested suspects as Sherhan Sabdani, 36, and his wife, Almalyn Kasim, 36, of Southcom village, Calarian, this city.
The police said they were arrested by the operatives of the Police Station 11 in an entrapment around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at a hotel along Governor Lim Avenue, this city.
Investigation showed that prior to the arrest of the couple, the suspects checked in at the hotel and complained that their room is infested with cockroaches.
The police added that the suspects demanded P20,000 from the hotel management for settlement.
The entrapment operation was launched after the manager of the hotel reported and sought police assistance.
The suspects were immediately arrested after receiving the money, the police said.
Recovered from them were 40 pieces of P500 bills.
Both suspects are presently detained at Zamboanga City Police Office custodial facility while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (SunStar Zamboanga)
