PSA to businessmen: Adopt online processes

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has urged businesses-respondents to submit online the necessary information for the Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI).

PSA Regional Statistical Services Office director Pepito Amoyen said business establishments chosen as survey respondents still prefer to have their accomplished questionnaire collected by PSA representatives.

“Dili pa kaayo gina-adopt sa atong respondents which are the business establishments ang pag submit og data through online. Pinaka-reason is that it is their preference. Depende pud sa management (The respondents have not yet adopted submitting data online and they prefer not to. It also depends on their management),” he said.

QSPBI is PSA’s quarterly collection of data on employment, compensation, compensation, revenue or sales, inventory, value of production, and capacity utilization to around 5,000 establishments nationwide with 20 or more employees.

The results of the QSPBI are consolidated to show the country’s quarterly national accounts such as the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), among others.

It also aids in the determination of the quarterly economic indices, and the monetary policy review by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

PSA supervising statistical specialist Soraya De Guzman said in the current process in the collection of data, PSA personnel distributes questionnaires to chosen establishments and return after 10 days to retrieve the completed survey questionnaires.

She said the Online QSPBI, which was launched in 2019, allows businesses to submit the questionnaires on the web, thus no personnel will have to collect it onsite.

However, she said about two to three percent nationwide have utilized the online mechanisms.

Amoyen said it would somehow expedite their processes and help in the timely release of information which becomes the basis for economic decisions.

“It would be better if our respondents avail of the new trend of sending data through online. At least, makuha tong time nga pag adto, follow up sa ilaha (It would cut the time that time that we have to follow up them),” he said.

He said the current challenge of the PSA is on the response cooperation of the respondents.

“Duha ra man ang kailangan sa atong mga respondents. Ang tinood lang nga datus ug kompleto (We only need the accurate and complete data from our respondents),” he said.
