Students urged to enlist in regional arts school

STUDENTS wanting to pursue education in the arts will now be able to make their dreams come true as the Department of Education (DepEd) in Central Luzon is calling on young artists to enlist in the Regional High School for the Arts for school year 2020-2021.

The Regional High School for the Arts is located in Bataan and is administered and supervised by the DepEd in coordination with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

While it will implement a general secondary curriculum prescribed by the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the school will give special focus on the arts “that shall aid in recognizing early the talent and exceptional giftedness of young children, thereby ensuring the nurturance of artists of excellence and the preservation and promotion of Filipino heritage.”

DepEd is calling on interested students to enlist. Applicants should be incoming Grade 7 students not older than 14 years old on June 8, 2020 and should be residents in the region.

DepEd regional director Nicolas Capulong, in his Regional Memorandum Order No. 65, said that interested students may pursue interests in the fields of theater arts, music, dance, visual arts and creative writing.

The Regional High School for the Arts in Bataan is the second arts-focused high school in the country after the Philippine High School for the Arts in Laguna.
