HAVING trouble taking the driver's license examination of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in English? Applicants from Cebu need not worry because now they can take it in the Cebuano language beginning March.

This after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade issued a department order that, aside from English and Tagalog, applicants can opt to take the exams in their own local language.

The Department Order 2020-003 "Directing the Land Transportation Office to conduct driver's license examination in English, Tagalog or other regional dialect at the option of the examine," was signed by the secretary last February 14, 2020.

“In the interest of justice and for the effective enforcement of land transportation laws, the DOTr recognizes the need to afford examinees the opportunity to fully comprehend the Driver’s License Examination,” read the department order of Tugade.

According to him, regional directors of LTO offices in the country are given 30 days to provide a translation of the driver's license examination. The order will take effect 15 days after its publication.

“LTO Regional Directors to provide a translation of Driver’s License Examination in their respective Regional Dialect within thirty (30) days from the effectivity of this Order,” read a portion of the order.

LTO Central Visayas Regional Director Victor Caindec said translating the examination would hopefully make the questions clearer to applicants who are not comfortable with English.

"Mas dali sila makasabot (they [applicants] will comprehend [the exams] better)," said. (HBL/JGS)
