Misamis Oriental lauds Steag

THE Provincial Board of Misamis Oriental recently passed Resolution 37-2010 commending Steag State Power Inc. for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

Misamis Oriental Vice Governor and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Presiding Officer Noris Babiera said the commendation is a recognition of the company’s adherence to the principles of good corporate citizenship.

“Steag deserves the provincial legislature’s congratulations and high commendations by embracing CSR as a way it does its business,” the resolution states.

For several years, Steag has been in the forefront of implementing programs designed to improve quality of public education, provide livelihood and employment opportunities and enable access to quality health services especially by the marginalized sectors in its host communities in Misamis Oriental.

It also undertakes programs on environment that include a 2,200 hectare forest protection and development and a 1.4 hectare mangrove rehabilitation project.

The company is also known for its strict adherence and compliance to safety and environmental restrictions.

For the last six years, Steag has achieved an unprecedented Zero Lost Time Due to Accident and 100 percent compliance with the conditions of its Environmental Compliance Certificate.

It has also instituted innovations in its power generation processes such that utilization of raw materials is kept at the minimum.

“The goal is to produce the same electricity with less fuel. This strategy redounds to increased plant efficiency and mitigated impact to the environment,” says Plant Manager Dr. Carsten Evers.
