Custodio: Thoughts during Saturday Edsa traffic

DEFINITELY, traffic is worse here in Manila. Even during weekends. It's awful! Can you imagine being stuck in traffic despite the assistance of Waze and the numerous rerouting attempts that the driver made? Surely Davao weekday traffic is much, much, much better!

But I do understand how a lot of us have become very impatient with our traffic situation. Signs of progress? Maybe. Seems like, a lot of people come to Davao these days. Our City is indeed growing into a bustling 1metropolis and sadly, big city problems have started to set in.

And as if that wasn't enough, infrastructural works abound to! Some roads are either closed or only allow one way traffic so it gets kinda crazy during peak hours. I don't blame you if you lose your cool because Davao has never had such traffic in the past!

Chill lang noon. You always get to your appointments in 15 minutes no matter where you're coming from. These days I am constantly reminded that those days are gone. I should have known things would never be the same when they installed traffic lights near Assumption Church! That's because I remember a time when Davao hardly had any. Boy, that makes me feel old!

Gaaahhd Manila traffic is really awful! I look out the window and all I see is a sea of course, a lot of which were angrily honking their horns because another vehicle was clearly not following road rules and refused to give way to relieve the traffic bottleneck! Seriously, I cannot imagine Davao being reduced to this, only, it already has! It's sad that a lot of Davao drivers are acquiring the Manila driver attributes. Tsk tsk tsk. Not good.

I hope we preserve a lot of our old Davao charms. Like how our taxi drivers are trustworthy and they actually give us our change. I like that they are strict about seat belts because it can save lives even when we have a 30mph speed restriction. I was surprised when one of the Grab drivers asked me if I am from Davao as I sat and put on my seat belt. When I said yes and asked him how he guessed right, he smiled and said:

"Lahat ng pasahero ko na taga-Davao, automatic na nagsi-seat belt!"

"Ay oo kasi magagalit si Inday Sara at Digong!"

"Ang galing talaga ni Presidente at ang angas ng Mayor nyo! Dapat ganyan talaga kasi ang tigas ng ulo naging mga Pilipino!"

I smiled and nodded. He went on to talk about how things are different now that Digong is President. Stuff we from Davao already know about. Isn't that cool? I thought it was awesome!
