PhilHealth: Universal health care covers all Filipinos

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Universal Health Care program of the government assures that every Filipino gets quality medical services.

This was learned from officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) during a media forum of the Pampanga Press Club at Widus Hotel and Casino Tuesday, March 3.

Monifer S. Bansil, head of PhilHealth Central Luzon public affairs office, said the three salient points of the health care program include access, quality, and financial hardship.

The Department of Health (DOH) and PhilHealth conduct continuous information campaign to educate the people, particularly in Central Luzon, about the good things about the Universal Health Care.

"Sa iba pong kababayan natin sa Central Luzon, hindi pa masyadong maliwanag ang Universal Health Care. Pero and Department of Health at and PhilHealth tuloy tuloy po ang pag-oorient regarding po dito," Bansil said.

Anabelle Imana, head of PhilHealth Angeles branch, said every Filipino is covered by the health insurance under the "immediate eligibility."

"Nakasaad po sa batas na lahat ng Pilipino ay covered at makakagamit na ng PhilHealth automatic po simula noong November 22 2019," Imana said.

Members, whose monthly PhilHealth payments are not updated, are still entitled to medical benefits when hospitalized, she added.

"Remember, prior to November 22, 2019, hahanapan ka ng nine months payment. PhilHealth member ka nga kulang naman ang bayad mo, unfortunately, hindi nakakagamit sa hospital. Under universal health, that is one very good news, kahit hindi ka PhilHealth [member], kahit hindi ka updated, ang bayad ay magagamit at magagamit mo," Imana said.

PhilHealth-accredited hospitals should allow patients use the health insurance, according to the PhilHealth official.

"Kahit alin mang PhilHealth-accredited hospitals, you are supposed to have immediate eligibility, ibabawas agad sayo yung amount na iso-shoulder ng PhilHealth," said Imana.
