San Fernando activates emergency operations center

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government of San Fernando headed by Mayor Edwin Santiago has activated its emergency operations center as a precautionary measure to counter the effects of Tropical Storm "Egay", which made landfall over Isabela over the weekend.

Mary Luanne David, administrative officer of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said that as early as Tuesday last week, the city’s disaster council has convened its members to monitor the situation and undertake preparatory measures.

The council is composed of five committees including alert and monitoring, response coordination, operational coordination, information management, and resource mobilization.

"Once na may advisory na ang national [Department of Interior and Local Government], we are activating our emergency operation center dito sa Heroes Hall para mas madali ang mobilization ng ating mga manpower," added David.

Although minimally affected by "Egay," David said that the city has made necessary preparations for natural hazards such as typhoons where equipment for rescue operations and relief goods were procured and prepositioned in strategic areas.

During emergencies, the city government, through the CDRRMO, assembles human resources from its departments and attached agencies like the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire and Protection, civic organizations like the Philippine National Red Cross, barangay personnel, volunteers, among others to assist in calamity response operations.

According to NDRMMC advisory, "Egay" has remained almost stationary over Luzon Sea and expected to exit Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.
