REIGNING women’s volleyball champion Baguio College of Technology are flexing their muscle with three straight victories in the resumption of the Baguio–Benguet Educational Athletic League.

The Lady Atoms earlier disposed Pines City College Lady Warriors, 25 – 7, 25 – 9, 25 – 14, to open their title retention bid in the second phase of Cordillera’s largest collegiate sports league which is now on its 33rd season.

BCT then downed season host Cordillera Career Development College Lady Admirals; 25 – 13, 25 – 13, 25 – 16, before stopping University of the Philippines – Baguio Lady Maroons; 25 -10, 25 – 20, 25 – 11.

But despite the early victories, coach Jun Nisperos who steered BCT to its first major crown in the BBEAL said the squad has yet to reach its peak.

“At this point medyo maaga pang sabihin na malakas yung team. Although nakulangan kame ng isa, buo pa rin yung team maski papano,” said Nisperos.

Nisperos said despite being the defending champion, BCT will be tested when they face former champions University of Baguio (UB), University of the Cordilleras (UC), and Saint Louis University (SLU) later in the round robin eliminations with the top four teams advancing to the semis.

“I think UB is one of the favorite. Dun na magkakalaman pag nakaharap na namin yung ibang teams during the eliminations,” added Nisperos.

UB Lady Cardinals and the UC Lady Jaguars also swept their first three assignments as they seek to dethrone the youngest member of the 33–year-old collegiate league.

The Lady Cardinals easily disposed PCC; 25 – 6, 25 – 8, 25 – 7; then toppled Baguio Central University (BCU) Lady Eagles; 25 – 3, 25 – 7, 25 – 9 and UP – Baguio Lady Maroons; 25 – 11, 25 – 13; 25 – 11.

UC meanwhile edged UP; 25 -21, 25 -15, 25 -14; blasted the Lady Admirals; 25 -7, 25 -16, 25 -16, then downed Benguet State University Lady Wildcats; 25 – 22, 25 – 13, 25 – 11.

The SLU Lady Navigators also pulled of contrasting victories clipping BCU; 25 – 12, 15 – 16, 25 – 10; edged BSU; 27 – 25, 25 -15, 25 – 17; and Philippine Military Academy Lady Cavaliers; 25 -17, 25 – 21, 25 – 16.

The Lady Admirals meanwhile notched their first win after stopping the Lady Cavaliers; 25 – 11, 25 – 20, 25 – 16; while the Lady Wildcats escaped the Lady Warriors in four sets; 24 – 26, 25 – 14, 25 – 15, 25 – 17.

In men’s volleyball, the Cardinals currently sits on top of the team standing with three wins in as many games while BCT, BSU, and defending champion UC have an identical 2 – 0 record.
