Sablan eyed as ecozone

SABLAN town may soon become the next economic hub.

In a bid to spread growth, Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong who stands as council chairman for the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) said establishment of an economic zone in the Municipality of Sablan is being eyed.

Magalong announced a private lot spanning ten hectares to be converted into the next economic zone was pitched to Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza).

The mayor added Peza initially said the space can be pitched to information technology companies.

The BLISTT chair said the presentation will be made to the group of mayors and officials on March 6.

Magalong added an investment marketing promotion will be done and present the program to the BLISTT body while brushing off speculation relationships have gone sour with neighboring towns after a piggery deal with Tuba has failed.

The chief executive said he cannot do anything if the community has rejected the project even if it was backed by the town mayor.

Magalong added several marketing promotions and various investment opportunities will be pitched by Peza to town mayors on March 6 to determine which ventures are suitable for their communities.

The establishment of eco-zones in the countryside was one of the modifications done by Peza to revolutionize its service apart from the expansion of the types of economic zones allowed depending on the “land potential and available resources in the city or province” where these will be hosted.
