THE Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (Abap) will hold a three-day boxing officiating seminar for Referees and Judges on April 17-19, 2020 at the Hotel Fortuna.

The event is organized by Abap-Central Visayas Regional Director Lorenzo “Chao” Sy in coordination with Abap national and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in order to upgrade and refresh the knowledge of the participants on the rules and regulations of amateur boxing.

“Our number one purpose is mainly to upgrade the officiating capabilities of our boxing officials. Beginners are also welcome since we lack boxing officials who are competent and adept with the boxing rules. There are revisions to the rules that are needed to be learned,” Sy said during the Scoop-Cebu Forum held at Hotel Fortuna Function Room.

Sy said there is no Cebuano amateur boxing referee or judge that is currently in the ranks of ABAP National Officials who officiated in the national or regional Batang Pinoy tournaments and the Philippine National Games.

“We hope that through this seminar, we can have new officiating officials from Cebu who can officiate in national events. However, one of the objectives of this seminar is to professionalize the ranks of our officiating. We want to promote the safety of our boxers by having competent and knowledgeable officials,” added Sy.

Tapped as resource persons in this three-day seminar are Ludy Therese Ceriales and Alvin Azucena.

Ceriales is the first and only Filipina International Referee/Judge. She is a three-star AIBA referee and judge and a member of the Abap National Officials. Azucena is one of the fast rising national referees and judges and is being primed to earn stripes in international boxing federations. They are also both teachers of Department of Education.

The seminar fee is P1,000 per person. (PR)
