THE Immaculate Heart Circle of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) had successfully conducted its second seminar on “Morality in Social Media” which was held at Holy Angel University (HAU).
The audience was composed mostly of grades 11 and 12 from the HAU targeting mainly the youth. The venue was jampacked with students inside the PGN Building of the university.
The purpose of the seminar was to enlighten the students and the youth of today’s digital age on how to become responsible netizens and teach them on how to protect themselves to the adverse effects of social media.
According to DMI Angeles City Regent Ruby Santiago, the seminar is one way of guiding future generations to become aware of the usual misconceptions in the unfiltered world of the internet, and to have the wisdom on how to properly utilize the productive functions of the social media.
Kapampangan broadcast journalist Jose Aubrey Pelayo IV who is commonly known as Kuya Jay was invited as the guest speaker for the second time on the said course.
Pelayo said that he appreciated the warm reception of the students of Holy Angel University.
“The fact that many students raised their hands to ask questions and joined in the forum and became interactive is a positive indication that the audience were into it and that the lecture was a success,” Pelayo furthered.
The seminar also touched on the advantages and disadvantages of social media, ways on how to be discerning when it comes to posting, sharing or commenting, the harmful effects of prolonged use of mobile devices, and many more.
Santiago was joined by her sisters in DMI namely, Corazon Sugay, Julie Tungol, Delia David, and in coordination with Jinky David and members of faculty.
The first seminar of DMI on the same topic was held at Republic Central Colleges in Angeles City late last year. (PR)
