BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced the continued demolition of structures to clear roads of obstruction.

Magalong said there will be more demolition in Naguillian Road and Marcos Highway to give way for the widening of roads.

There will be at least 50 more structures up for demolition in both highways which was found to be obstructions.

Pre-demolition notices have been given to all structures with an action plan by owners of structures submitted to the city.

One building along Marcos highway will self-demolish its facade as it was proven by the courts to have violated the law.

Magalong said new Department of Public Works and Highways prerequisites dictate roads have to be clear of obstruction before any widening will be implemented.

The mayor said funding for the widening will arrive next year as the city is now on the process of requesting it after clearing the obstructions.

The City Government and the Baguio City District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-BCDEO) already issued the second notices of violation to 330 owners of structures along Naguilian Road identified to be obstructions to road right of way.

The removal of encroachments on sidewalks and roads by the different city governments is pursuant to the mandate handed down by President Rodrigo Duterte coursed through the Department of the Interior and Local Government for local officials to help in bringing back the roads and sidewalks to the public.
