KALIBO, Aklan -- Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts is up for an acid test as they play Saturday, March 7, against the Western Visayas’ bests in the National Basketball Training Center Regional Qualifiers here in Kalibo, Aklan.
The Bacolod City-based team earned the spot in the regional qualifiers after they dominated the NBTC provincial/city qualifiers held in Sagay City behind its twin towers Henjz Demisana and Dritter Ilalto.
This tournament will also gauge coach Ronald Despi’s team performance as they are likewise set to compete for the 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Meet - which will also be staged in Aklan this March 21 to 28.
Meanwhile, expected to see action in the NBTC regionals are Iloilo’s St. Robert’s International School, Capiz’s Hercor College, and Mechor Memorial School Inc. of host-Aklan.
Hua Siong was supposed to represent Iloilo but, gave its slot to eventual runner-up St. Robert due to conflict of WVRAA schedule in case they advance to the nationals. (JSG)
