Capitol eyes P50-M savings on direct hiring of JOs

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental could save about P45 to P50 million on direct hiring of job order casuals which will be implemented soon.

Lawyer Rayfrando Diaz, provincial administrator, said they intend to end the contract with the placement agencies which was made by the previous administration.

He added that the Provincial Government has a budget of P90 million this year for the services of agency-paid JO workers and direct hiring will generate savings of about 50 percent of the allocated budget, he said.

Most of the JOs are utility workers where most are assigned at the Provincial Veterinary Office and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Mambukal Mountain Resort, Diaz pointed out.

Diaz said the plan will be implemented on April 1 this year.

He added that instead of monthly contracts Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will give them one year contracts.

Under agency employment, job order casuals receive less than P10,000 monthly salary but if they are hired as JOs at the Capitol, they will get P11,065 as basic pay, Diaz said.

He also said that they are investigating complaints of some of these agency-paid workers that their agencies failed to remit their monthly contribution to the Social Security System and Pag-Ibig and also failed to provide cleaning materials.

He also said that the Capitol is paying P17,000 a month to placement agencies for every worker. (TDE)
