GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson said Friday, March 6, that the ban of tricycles on tertiary roads is a big challenge to the local government units.
“It is challenging because tricycle is a form of transportation in almost every locality,” Lacson said.
He added that motorists should only have to follow traffic policy that says, “Slow moving vehicles should stay on the right side of the road.”
Lacson made the statement when asked for reaction on the directive issued by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año that local chief executives should strictly implement the ban on tricycles and pedicabs along national highways as part of road clearing operations.
Año issued the directive, citing reports that tricycles continue to ply national highways.
He said three-wheeled vehicles are not allowed even to cross national roads.
It has been observed that tricycles and motorcycles pose danger to their drivers and passengers at the highways as most of their drivers are not licensed including their units.
It is the LGUs that issue franchise to the tricycles that are plying in their respective localities. (TDE)
