Relocation lot awardees seek City Council’s help

SOME residents from Arao Relocation Site in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City sought the assistance of the City Council after their houses were allegedly demolished by the City Legal Office (CLO) last month.

On their letter, signed by 10 relocation site awardees addressed to the members of the City Council, stated that they were dismayed after the BHA cancelled their lots and their houses were demolished by CLO.

The letter was received by the City Council on March 3.

They said the BHA and CLO failed to give them due process to demolish their houses.

They added on February 24, the demolition team demolished more than 10 houses without proper consultation from the lot awardees regarding their violations.

The relocation site awardees are hopeful that the City Council will help them and address their miserable situation in the relocation site.

Berlita Ante, chairman of Kadamay, said the demolition team demolished about 14 houses without formal notice and pre-demolition conference.

The lot awardees were already occupying their lots, but why were they demolished? Ante asked.

Ante also denied that the affected residents were involved in buy and sell of the lots and she urged the BHA to conduct their own validation.

Marivic Parreñas, head of BHA, could not be reached for a comment as of Friday.
