THE University of the Visayas Green (UV) Lancers showed that they can ball with the big boys as they captured the third place trophy in the Philippine Collegiate Champions’ League (PCCL) National Collegiate Championship with a dominant 93-63 spanking of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons at the Ynares Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2020.

After a close first canto that saw UV lead by just four, 18-14, the Green Lancers thoroughly dominated the second and third cantos, outscoring the Maroons, 26-14 and 32-20, to take the fight out of their opponents.

So dominant was UV that they led by as much as 32 points against the University Athletic Association of the Philippines powerhouse.

Jancork Cabahug put on an offensive showcase as he tallied 21 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting clip including a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc. He also had eight rebounds and three assists.

UV’s big man from the Ivory Coast, Lass Coulibally, threw his weight around inside as he put up 17 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots. Melvin Butohan chipped in 15 while Gabriel Cometa, arguably UV’s next great guard, contributed 13 points, seven boards, four assists and a steal.

Former Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Mythical Five forward Conrad Catapusan paced UP with 13 points. (JNP)
