QATAR has temporarily banned the entry of travelers from 14 countries, including the Philippines, beginning Monday, March 9, 2020.

The ban was imposed to minimize the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the State of Qatar, said Qatar's Government Communications Office in a statement.

The ban covers Doha-bound passengers who traveled to the following countries in the last 14 days:

* Philippines

* Bangladesh

* China

* Egypt

* India

* Iran

* Iraq

* South Korea

* Lebanon

* Nepal

* Pakistan

* Sri Lanka

* Syria

* Thailand

"The decision affects all individuals intending to enter from these countries, including visas upon arrival, those with a residence or work permit, and temporary visitors," Qatar's Government Communications Office said.

The State of Qatar urged all its citizens and residents to avoid all but essential travel at this time.

"These precautionary measures may be subject to further updates based on the latest guidance of the national health authorities and international organizations on the spread of coronavirus, in order to ensure the safety of all residents of the State of Qatar," the statement added.

On March 8, the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar announced three new positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 15.

In the Philippines, four new cases of Covid-19 were also confirmed Saturday, bringing the country's total to 10. (JGS)
