Tell it to SunStar: On International Working Women's Day: Let our collective resistance sparks change

WE, WOMEN of the Center for Women's Resources (CWR), a 38-year research, databank, and training institution for women and by women, join all our sisters globally in rising against all forms of abuses and repression.

Let us be counted for a stronger collective resistance.

The world focuses on us today, March 8, the International Working Women's Day. Thus, let this be another day for reckoning and regaining our strength so as to face the various adversities.

Globally, we confront tyranny, misogyny, violence, plunder, among others. Violence against women continues to rise. Repression against women human rights defenders intensifies. Millions starve and die every day because of plunder and greed by imperial powers.

In the Philippines, about 16 million of us, women, are deemed economically insecure as we endure lack of decent opportunities to sustain our families. About seven million of us women workers endure labor flexibilization, low wages, and unsafe work environment. Nine out of 10 farmers remain landless, while many of us peasant women remain unpaid or underpaid. All these, make us even more vulnerable to abuses. Our economic insecurity makes us an easy target of violence.

Let us be counted for a stronger collective resistance.

We belong to the marginalized sectors in our country. Every day, we face the aggravating crisis brought by imperial greed, thirst for blood and abuse of power. Every day, we wonder when will the nightmare of state terrorism end. We realize, we need to act now. At once. Together.

Today is a fitting time to call again our sisters, daughters, mothers, aunts, and grandmothers. We will rise together with our brothers, husbands, fathers, uncles, and grandfathers.

Let our collective resistance sparks change. (Center for Women's Resources)
