2 nabbed for selling illegal firearms, drugs

POLICE have arrested three persons allegedly involved in illegal drug activities and selling of firearms in separate operations in Cagayan de Oro City over the weekend.

Members of the Regional Special Operation Unit (RSOU) arrested Gilyzar Melendrez, a resident of Valencia City and purchaser and driver of a rendering plant; and his female companion identified as Sittic Topaan, of Marawi City.

The two were arrested in a buy-bust operation for illegal selling of guns in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Recovered from their possession were 9mm pistol with ammunition, sachets of shabu weighing around 100 grams and worth about P700,000, and an Isuzu pick-up.

Investigators said the two were closely monitored after information about their alleged involvement in selling of firearms and illegal drugs reached police.

Meanwhile, a construction worker identified as Wilfredo Padinit Jr., 46, a resident of Terry Hills, Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Sunday, March 8.

Seized from the suspect's possession were a caliber .22 revolver with ammunition and 25 grams of shabu worth around P175,000.

Police said Padinit also figured in the priority list of personalities engaging in illegal selling of firearms and illegal drugs.

Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao Director Rolando Anduyan lauded his men for their efforts in eradicating the menace of illegal drugs and other forms of criminality.
