Benguet losing P100M from boundary row

THE Province of Benguet is continuously losing millions from land disputes in 2019 alone.

Vice Governor Johnny Waguis on Monday disclosed the province is losing more than P100 million which could have been utilized as additional funds for various developments in health sector, infrastructure projects among others.

Waguis said Itogon and Bokod for one is losing about P30 million from their land dispute.

More than P66.2 million estimated Internal Revenue Allotment are not being paid to Benguet towns while the province is not receiving P40.9 million share of the province.

Records added almost all 13 towns of the province have boundary disputes including with the City of Baguio.

Recently, the towns of Kapangan and Kibungan and Bakun and Kibungan have settled their boundary dispute.

Waguis in addition lauded the municipalities for settling their land disputes.

“We thanked the involved municipalities, they had the courage to settle the dispute and consider the benefits of solving them,” Waguis said.
