Cobra kills child

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl died Sunday morning, March 8, after she was bitten by a King Cobra in a cornfield in Barangay Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City.

The Baguio District Police Station said the child was identified as Airezlyn Upla.

Arlen Upla, mother of the child, a resident of Purok 1-A, Sitio Macatabo, Barangay Carmen, Baguio District, Davao City, reported to police that the incident happened at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 8.

She said while they were harvesting at the cornfield, her daughter approached and told her that she was bitten by a grayish-black snake, believed to be a King Cobra.

Argie Hermoginez, grandmother of the victim, also told police that she heard her granddaughter shouting and crying while telling her that she was bitten by a snake.

Upon hearing her scream, Hermoginez went to check on her granddaughter.

When she reached her granddaughter's location, she spotted the snake heading toward a road drainage.

After the incident, the child was brought to Isaac T. Robillo Hospital in Barangay Calinan, but she succumbed to the venom.

The child was declared dead on arrival by her attending physician.

The child's cadaver now lies at Angel Funeral Parlor in Calinan District, Davao City.
