JAIME Chua, president of the Bougainvillea Cebu Garden Club and chairman Jun Montuerto are among the exhibitors of rare bougainvilleas at the ongoing Bougainvillea Extravaganza at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu which ends March 15. The exhibit includes bougainvillea bonsai, topiaries and massing, as well as different varieties and colors. The aim of the club is “the promotion and propagation of bougainvillea as the flower of choice in making Cebu’s landscape beautiful and vibrant.”

Businessman/contractor Manny Mendoza and wife Elizabeth hosted the members of Boaters Unlimited in Cebu to a weekend interlude at their spanking new Modala Beach Resort in Panglao, Bohol. The five-storey resort is inside a huge complex that includes a commercial center (called the Moadto Strip) featuring shops and restaurants. Spacious and luxurious with a gorgeous two-kilometer seafront, Modala is poised to become the newest favorite destination in Bohol.

Park Inn by Radisson was the main topic of sales directors Josette Palma (from Iloilo) and Flordeliza Gamo (from Davao) who each spoke with pride of their respective hotels during a cocktail affair at the lobby of Radisson Blu Cebu. Park Inn by Radisson in Davao is conveniently located beside the SM Lanang Premier Mall and the SMX Convention Center, while Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo sits next to SM City Iloilo.

It was a wonderful vacation here for the lovely Rodriguez sisters who are now based in the land of milk and honey. Antoinette R. Osmeña, Myrna R. Adad, Joy R. Ramas and Menchu R. Salas were feted left and right by friends from way back when. There was that yummy Chinese dinner at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu’s Hai Shin Lou hosted by Carlitos Agustines, who recalled how Joy welcomed him when he arrived in New York in the mid-’60s. It was an evening of reminiscing.

When it’s winter in Michigan, Winkle and Juliet Lock come home to Cebu. They have been doing this for several years now but this year’s visit was special. Juliet had a golden jubilee reunion with former classmates at the Nursing course of Velez College. It was a whirlwind of activities for her and Winkle.

Siony Mendoza, the president of The Society of Cabahug Medalists, has announced that one of the highlights in the celebration of the Justice Sotero Cabahug Day on April 22 is the Songwriting Contest on the Life and Works of Justice Sotero Barte Cabahug, Mandaue’s favorite son. Cash prizes of P30K, P20K and P10k will be given to the three winners respectively. The contest is open to all interested composers and deadline of entries is March 27.
