Sharing global friendships the rotary way

THE Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) that transpired between Rotary International District 5110 of Oregon, USA, and District 3850 here has reached fruitful interchanges citing the recent visit of the team from Oregon to Bacolod City and other places in the province of Negros Occidental.

The RFE team - Oregon visited some places in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental to fulfill the objective of the global friendship exchange.

PP Paul Spain and his spouse Tamara of the Rotary Club of Redmond were attended by RI District 3850 Assistant Governor Mate Espina and her RFE Bacolod team who likewise visited the beautiful areas in Oregon, the USA last year.

The other RFE team members were Diane Hazen and Mike Axline of the Rotary Club of Cottage Grove; Tommy Drake of the Rotary Club of Rogue Gateway; Karol Kuhn Simons, RCRG, PP E Chandra La Husen and Alan Bair of the Rotary Club of Cottage Grove; PDG Dell Gray and Shell Gray of the Rotary Club of Roseburg and P Dave Buche and PP Diane Buche of the Rotary Club of Bandon-by-the-sea.

The local Rotarians were the ones who also attended the team from Oregon to assure them of a satisfying trip in the province.

The team visited Tuesday, Mambukal Resort in Murcia, and were able to experience feasting in the middle of the stream, thereby enjoying the “Kaon ta sa Suba,” which is the recent come-on of the government-owned resort.

They have partaken the sinugba na baboy, tinola na bisaya na manok, fried kangkong, salted eggs, steamed okra, pineapple slices, among others.

The bats, the trees, the ambiance, the hot spring dipping pool and the leisure and fun in traveling to and from with fellow Rotarians brought them excitement.

The visiting team has a favorable impression of their trip here in Negros.

RFE Team member David of Bandon Oregon Rotary Club said, “we were very excited to come back to the Philippines and see our friends, and they have exceeded our expectations, not only do we love the country, the food, and the group have been so lovely and accommodating, and we are so appreciative, and we are looking forward to coming back.”

Both teams visited a hospital in Silay and took their lunch at Balaring in the said city.

They also visited the famous Ruins in Talisay City.

Past District Governor Jundad Legislador hosted a dinner for both RFE teams.

On March 8, they visited the artworks of Nune Alvarado in Sagay City and proceeded to Cadiz at the house of Rotarian Gary Acuna.

On March 9, they visited the project visit RC Central at NOHS.

Today, they will leave for Iloilo City to continue their RFE journey.
