Mayor postpones LCP meet due to Covid-19

DUE to the public concerns and anxiety over the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) has postponed its National Executive Board (NEB) meeting that was scheduled today [March 11] at Sofitel Philippine Plaza hotel in Manila.

“After consultation with LCP national chairman Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and Regional representative Sta. Rosa (Laguna) Mayor Arlene Arcillas— who represented the LCP in the Malacañang meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte last night - it is with regrets that we have to announce the postponement of our NEB meeting scheduled March 11.”

Leonardia, national president of LCP, said, “While we had looked forward to this LCP assembly after it was first postponed last January due to the Taal Volcano eruption, the matter of reassuring our constituents with our presence and attention is of paramount concern amidst public anxiety over Covid-19.”

LCP is a formal organization of all the mayors of 145 cities in the country. Some 40 million people, or about half of the country’s population, live in cities.

Among the special guests who had confirmed attendance were Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) national president Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson, League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) national president Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. and LPP national chairman Governor Dakila Carlo Cua.

Still, they wish to thank again House Deputy Speaker Rep. Michael Romero and Parañaque Mayor City Edwin Olivares who major sponsors of the event, Leonardia added. (PR)
