MisOr under state of calamity

THE Misamis Oriental Provincial Board placed the entire province under state of calamity on Monday, March 9, following President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of State of Public Health Emergency throughout the country to combat the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) threat.

The Capitol’s legislative body passed a resolution declaring the province under state of calamity so that funds will be readily available if necessary.

Board Member Gerardo Sabal said the declaration is also based on the request of Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano.

“Nag move mi nga mag declare og state of calamity province-wide dayon authorize the province to release funds if necessary,” Sabal said.

(We moved to declare immediate province-wide state of calamity to authorize the province to release funds if necessary.)

Sabal said the declaration of state of calamity can be done as a preparation for any eventuality.

“The declaration can be done even before the actual happening. Pwede na before or after kay we anticipate na daan so ato na lang unhan para makapangandam ta,” he added.

Sabal also said the Board is also awaiting updates and recommendations from the Department of Education (DepEd) in terms of suspension of classes or postponement of school activities due to Covid-19 threat.

In Cagayan de Oro City, the City Council is also likely to utilize the calamity fund for prevention and cautionary measures.

Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy said President Duterte’s pronouncement already entitled local government units to use the calamity fund.

“Pwede ta mogamit kung kinahanglan na gyud,” Uy said.

(We can use the funds if it’s really necessary.)

He said the City Council is also waiting for the recommendation of the City Heath Office.

The Department of Health on Tuesday, March 10, confirmed an additional nine new confirmed cases after a correction was made about the misinformation that there were 11 new cases of the coronavirus disease.

The latest count of total confirmed infected patients of the Covid-19 in the Philippines is now at 33.
