Sangil: What is happening in the neighborhood

IT ISN'T that I am a columnist of this paper that I feel bad whenever I can't get hold a copy of SunStar, a well subscribed daily mostly circulated in Pampanga. It is my source of what's happening in the neighborhood. The metropolitan newspapers' spaces are too tight for situational stories coming from the provinces, hence SunStar is a must read for me, and for you even.

Just like the carried stories yesterday.

EDSA: OLD PUBLIC MARKET REHABILITATION NECESSARY -- Mayor Edwin Santiago said that a thorough study was conducted and there were two surveys conducted earlier and 97 percent are in favor of the rehabilitation. Me too is in favor. What other Fernandinos are concerned is the amount to be borrowed, which is a whooping P650 million. I hope no sticky fingers will lay on the money when the project will be bidded out. I suggest that the competitive bidding will be done at Kingsborough or LausGroup Event Centre for transparency. And invite most of those 97 percent surveyed.

CDC ORDERS POSTPONEMENT OF PUBLIC EVENTS IN CLARK -- President Noel Manankil with the imprimatur of the board issued a circular ordering the postponement of all festival and sports events inside the freeport. May we ask President Manankil if those huge parties on function halls of hotels included? Are the casinos exempted when a great number of people converge for their regular weekly raffles wherein huge cash amounts and flashy cars are the prizes? We cannot just be selective here.

I don't get it till now why the Duterte's presidential proclamation declaring a state of public emergency banning public events doesn't include cockfighting activities. Don't you think it's some sort of stupidity declaring no classes on many schools due to fear corona virus transmission yet exclude cockpits. Diyan nga nag-e-excursion ang laway. Hey, Secretary Ed Ano, waddya say? Issue a memo to the mayors.

CITY DADS WANT WATER DISTRICT TO ADDRESS CONSUMERS COMPLAINTS -- Since the Mabalacat Water District partnered with the Villar owned Prime Water, complaints mounted, particularly dirty water is gushing out from the faucets of houses in several villages, according to City Councilor Jun Castro. Consumers are posting their complaints on social media. This is also happening not only in Mabalacat but in other cities and towns where Prime Water entered into joint venture. In San Fernando, people are saying that while rocket ships can fly up to the moon, pipe water cannot even go as high the second floor of houses.

MAYOR DENIES COVID-19 CASE IN APALIT -- Mayor Jun Tetangco clarified that there is still no confirmed case of corona virus infection in his town. "There is one person under investigation, but there is still no confirmation if the patient contracted the disease," Tetangco said. The mayor asked the public to remain calm but asked the town's health office to coordinate with concerned national agencies. I suggest that all local government units should now form their respective inter-agencies to create awareness among residents. Instead of just be reactive and shrugging your shoulders that it will not reach your boundaries and that in time it will just go away.
