Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, individuals who have transactions at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) on Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City will not be allowed to enter the compound if they do not wear face masks.

Police Colonel Engelbert Soriano, chief of the CCPO, said they will implement such measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), especially among his personnel.

Disinfectants, such as rubbing alcohol, will be provided at the entrance of the camp. Body temperatures will also be checked using thermal guns upon entry.

According to Soriano, no one is exempted. Personnel of the CCPO, as well as members of the media, will not be allowed to enter the premises if they do not wear face masks.

"Our immediate action is to strengthen the immune system of our police. I also advised them to take multivitamins, aside from the remedial measures of wearing face masks," Soriano said in both Filipino and English.

The measure was announced ahead of time to allow civilians to prepare, especially to those who will get their police clearance.

Soriano does not require a specific face mask just as long as it covers the face.

He also plans to purchase face masks for his personnel and would gladly accept supply if the Cebu City Government will provide them.

The police chief has advised police officers to stay home for 14 days if one develops fever.

Soriano has not received any information whether they have personnel who manifest the symptoms of the Covid-19.

"We will have self-quarantine for 14-days which is the standard," Soriano said.

He urged the public to avoid shaking hands and to just make non-contact hand gestures.

During barangay visits, he similarly advised civilians to always take precautionary measures such as using rubbing alcohols and to take vitamins. (AYB/RSR/JGS)
