THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Board of Governors Wednesday, March 11, cancelled its ongoing season of the PBA Philippine Cup and PBA D-League Aspirants Cup until further notice.

Commissioner Willie Marcial, in a press conference at the PBA office in Quezon City Wednesday, bared what transpired during the special meeting that the PBA Board of Governors held March 10.

Cancellation of the PBA and PBA D-League games is due to the country’s current situation amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak.

“Considering the present situation surrounding Covid-19 and the Presidential declaration of Public Health Emergency, it is our paramount duty and responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our fans, players, teams, officials and staff,” the PBA said in a statement furnished to SunStar Davao Wednesday.

It said “the league will assess the effect of the Covid-19 on a day-to-day basis guided by the parameters set by the DOH (Department of Health) and WHO (World Health Organization) and will remain committed to conduct its games and activities in a safe and responsible manner for all its stakeholders.”

The PBA 3X3 inaugurals will also be held off for the time being.
