HIGH demand of beef and chevon (goat meat) has driven up prices of these commodities in the province, the top official of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental said.
Decena said they noted an increase of P0.56 per kilogram of beef and P0.33 per kilogram of chevon.
“There’s no more scare on African Swine Fever (ASF), but usually those in northern part of Negros in general consume ruminant meat such as chevon and beef,” he said, adding that high demand for these commodities was noted last week.
The PVO, meanwhile, reported a decrease of P0.21 per kilogram of carabeef (carabao meat).
A significant decrease of P0.57 per kilogram of broiler and P0.18 per kilogram of native chicken was also noted.
“There’s an oversupply of chicken so we shipped three tons to Mindanao last week resulting in price reduction,” the provincial veterinarian said.
Earlier this month, prices per kilogram of these commodities in each district in the province are as follows:
In First District, the carabeef costs P273.33; beef – P268.00; chevon – P341.00; and dressed broiler chicken – P167.50.
Per kilogram of carabeef is P263.33; beef – P263.33; chevon – P289.17; dressed broiler chicken – P157.67 in Second District.
In Third District, carabeef – P256.00; beef – P272.00; chevon – P347.50; dressed broiler chicken – P170.50.
For other districts, carabeef costs P273.33, beef is P267.08 and chevon is P272.00 in Fourth District; carabeef – P255.00, beef – P252.50, chevon – P287.50, dressed broiler chicken – P165.00 in Fifth District; and carabeef – P242.50, beef – P252.50, chevon – P340.00 and dressed broiler chicken – P166.67 in Sixth District.
On an average, the prevailing price for carabeef is P258.36 per kilogram, beef – P261.49; chevon – P312.86; and dressed chicken broiler – P165.37.
Earlier, the PVO has noted an increase in the average live weight price of hogs in the province amid the prevailing issue on ASF.
From P200.64 per kilogram last month, the prevailing live weight price of pigs is P201.40 per kilogram or an increase of P0.76 per kilogram.
